President and CEO - Burroughs Wellcome Fund

Dr. Louis Muglia, MD PhD is President and CEO of the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, an independent nonprofit research foundation. As a world-renowned clinician, academic and scientist, Dr. Muglia has done seminal work in understanding the molecular timing machinery comprising the biological clock that determines the timing of birth and how this is influenced by the environment, to prevent or better treat human preterm labor and delivery, utilizing genetic and comparative genomic approaches.

Dr. Muglia is a recipient of numerous awards most notably the prestigious "Society of Pediatric Research Young Investigator Award". He has been elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation and Association of American Physicians. In 2010, Dr. Muglia was elected as a Fellow in the American Association for the advancement of Science. In 2013, Dr. Muglia was elected to membership in the National Academy of Medicine. He has been the recipient of outstanding faculty mentor awards on 7 occasions including Senior Faculty Mentor Award at Cincinnati Children’s, and served as chair of the Board of Scientific Counselors to the NICHD.

Dr. Muglia earned his Doctor of Medicine (1988) and Doctor of Philosophy (1986) degrees from the University of Chicago and his Bachelor of Science degree in biophysics from the University of Michigan in 1981.

MD - Chair, UCSF Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

Dr. Amy Murtha is Chair of UCSF's Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences. As a preterm birth researcher, she focuses on identifying the best ways to diagnose and care for patients at risk for preterm birth, particularly for pregnancies complicated by the premature rupture of fetal membranes.

Dr. Murtha is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists; Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics; Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine; Society for Reproductive Investigations; Infectious Disease Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology; Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society; Preterm Birth International Collaborative; and Perinatal Research Society.

Dr. Murtha earned her medical degree from the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania, now Drexel University College of Medicine. She is the recipient of numerous awards recognizing her research and publications during her fellowship at Duke.

Dr. Shantha Kumari Sekaran is a senior gynecologist and laparoscopic surgeon and a Senior Consultant Surgeon at Yashoda Hospitals in Hyderabad, India. She is the President Elect of Federation of Obstetric and Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI), the largest conglomerate of Ob/Gyn practitioners in India. A successful clinician, academic and administrator, Dr. Shantha has been working tirelessly to address maternal mortality in India to bring accessible, preventive care to women in rural areas in collaboration with Governments, private healthcare operators and not for profit institutions.

An able administrator, Dr. Shantha has played an instrumental role in numerous administrative bodies in Obstetrics and Gynecology globally.

Post her MBBS, Dr. Shantha received her MD in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Kasturba Medical College, Manipal.
